Red variety of special relevance in Spain, specifically in the areas of Utiel-Requena (Valencia), Manchuela (Albacete, Castilla la Mancha) and Ribera del Júcar (Cuenca, Castilla la Mancha). It is a medium-late budding and ripening plant used to produce both rosé and red wines. It adapts perfectly to Mediterranean and Mediterranean-continental transition climates, especially in vineyards at high altitude, where it achieves its maximum expression.
Stylistically, in reds it produces wines with a bright colour, very rich in red fruit, with a medium structure in the mouth, not too much alcohol and a rich acidity. In rosés, its eminent fruity character and aromatic power stand out.
Among the aromas that can be found in many of their wines, there is one that is often repeated, and that is the herbal and wild nuance, as if it were aromatic herbs. In the last few years, more wines from Bobal have been positioned at the top of the Peñín Guide ratings, which shows that we are still learning from this expressive and representative variety of the Spanish Levante region.
