SITUATION
It is located in the western part of the province of Zaragoza, in the foothills of the Iberian System, marked by the fluvial network that weaves different tributaries of the Ebro: Jalón, Jiloca, Manubles, Mesa, Piedra and Ribota, and includes 46 municipalities of the Ebro Valley.
CLIMATE
Semi-arid and dry, although cooler than Cariñena and Borja, with cold winters, an average annual temperature of between 12 and 14°C and a frost period between five and seven months, which has a significant impact on production. Rainfall varies between 300-550 mm per year and during the ripening period there are significant temperature differences between day and night.
SOILS
In general, they have a high limestone content. They are made up of stony slightly rolled materials, coming from the nearby mountain ranges and often accompanied by reddish clays. The area is the most rugged in Aragón and the vineyards are located between 550 and 880 meters above sea level.
VARIETIES
White: Preferred: Macabeo (25%) and Malvasia. Authorized: Muscat of Alexandria, Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer.
Reds: Preferred: red garnacha (61.9%), tempranillo (10%) and mazuela. Authorized: monastrell, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, bobal and syrah.
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES
WHITES
Pale yellow in color; they are distinguished by their fresh and fruity style. There is some experience of barrel fermentation.
ROSÉS
Formerly they were the most distinctive product of the area due to their excellent quality/price ratio. Basically made from Grenache, they stand out for their good varietal expression, very lively raspberry color, freshness, aromatic power and flavorfulness in the mouth, typical of the variety.
RED WINE
Grenache is the undisputed queen of its reds. It gives these wines a dark and lively color. The best examples offer a fairly powerful nose, with notes of ripe black fruits; in the mouth they are tasty and, on some occasions, somewhat warm. The most characteristic feature of his reds is their great minerality, which is expressed both nose and mouth.
