See detail of Gran Canaria D.O. / D.O.P.
DATA
Nº of hectares under vine: 183,707 - Nº of vine growers: 289 - Nº of wineries: 47 - Harvest 21: Unclassified - Production 21: 196,414 liters - Marketing: 95% Domestic - 5% International.
SITUATION
The production area covers 99% of the island of Gran Canaria, since the climate and the conditions of the land allow cultivation from the lowest elevations at sea level to the highest peaks.
CLIMATE
As in other islands of the Canary archipelago, the differences in altitude give rise to diverse microclimates that create specific characteristics for the cultivation of vines. However, the climate is conditioned by the influence of the trade winds, which come from the east and whose action is more evident at higher altitudes.
SOILS
The vineyard can be found both in areas close to the coast and at high altitudes up to 1,500 meters, being cultivated in very different soils.
VARIETIES
White: Preferred: malvasía, güal, marmajuelo (bermejuela), vijariego, albillo and moscatel. Authorized: listán blanco, burrablanca, torrontés, pedro ximénez, brebal and bastardo blanco.
Reds: Preferred: listán negro, negramoll, tintilla, malvasía rosada. Authorized: black muscatel, black bastard or black slimy, listán prieto and black vijariego.

REDS
Garnet cherry color, they offer some fruity notes and characteristic balsamic touches; without much body in the mouth.
