SITUATION

On the island of Lanzarote. The production area includes the municipalities of Tinajo, Yaiza, San Bartolomé, Haría and Teguise.

CLIMATE

Dry subtropical type, with low rainfall (about 200 mm. per year), which is irregularly distributed throughout the year. Occasionally, the Levante winds, characterized by their low humidity and transporting dust in suspension from the African continent, produce a considerable increase in temperatures.

SOILS

Volcanic type (known here as "picón"). In fact, the cultivation of the vine is possible, due to the fact that the volcanic sand retains perfectly the water of the dew and the scarce rains. The island is relatively flat (the maximum altitude is 670 meters) and the most characteristic cultivation is carried out in "holes", surrounded by a semicircular wall, which protects the plant from the wind. This peculiar layout of the vineyard determines an extremely low density of vines per hectare.

VARIETIES

White: Malvasia (75%, majority), Pedro Ximénez, Diego, Listán Blanco, Moscatel, Burra Blanca and Breval.

Reds: listán negra (15%) and negramoll.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WINES

WHITES
The most characteristic wines of the island are the Malvasia whites. They have fresh floral aromas and volcanic and mineral nuances. There are the more classic and traditional ones, amber yellow in color, with almond and rancid aromas; the young dry ones, bright yellow in color, great varietal character on the nose, fresh and tasty on the mouth; and the semi-dry ones, with similar characteristics to the previous ones, but sweeter on the palate.
 ROSÉS
In general, they have a pinkish or pinkish-raspberry color; they are fresh and fruity.
 RED WINE
They are usually of medium depth, with a garnet cherry color; they are somewhat warm and have a good structure in the mouth.
