Petit verdot
Synonyms: lambrusquet, verdau, verdot, verdot petit.
Red variety of French origin from the Bordeaux region. Long cycle with late budding and ripening. It is considered rustic and quite resistant to drought and hours of sunshine, so it usually ripens well in dry and warm climates.
The wines obtained with this variety are usually wines with a lot of color, powerful aromatically and tannic. It withstands barrel aging very well, which also helps to soften the tannins. It is mostly used as a blending grape, providing structure to some wines that have varieties that provide less color and structure. There are few examples of single varietals and if there are any it is in more southern regions.
