Treixadura
Synonyms: trajadura (Douro in Portugal), verdelho rubio (Orense and Lugo).
It is one of the most outstanding Galician white varieties, historical grape of Ribeiro and clear component of the celebrated wines of Ribadavia.
Of possible Portuguese origin, this grape has a late budding and medium ripening, therefore it has a short cycle. It is planted mainly in the northwest of Portugal (Minho) and in Galicia. In Ribeiro it is the leading variety in its blends with frequent single-varietal elaborations. In RĂas Baixas, Monterrei, Valdeorras and Ribeira Sacra, it is drunk blended with other local varieties such as Godello.
In Ribeiro, single-varietal wines show white fruit, citrus, floral notes and hints of balsamic herbs. They are fresh, with moderate alcohol, as well as a certain unctuousness and structure in the quality elaborations with lees work and barrel ageing. It is slightly reminiscent of German shepherd grapes due to its floral and fruity character.
